Topdeck Tour: Horseback Riding in Banff

Welcome to Banff – the highest town in Canada! The town of Banff is located inside Banff National Park, Canada’s first and the world’s third national park, established in 1885. Most of the park (96%) is wilderness and the park itself is 6,641 square kilometres. The townsite is surrounded by mountains, mountains and again mountains! From downtown, you have access to natural hot springs, hikes, horseback riding – which I am going to show you in this post – yummy food and great shopping opportunities! I have never done horseback riding before, so I was super excited! Two of my travel mates joined me to this riding adventure. We could book the activity directly at the Banff Rail Riders Store in town, the horseback riding itself was at Warner Stables – Banff Trail Riders, which was approx. 20 minutes away from the store. Unfortunately, I don’t remember how much I paid, but I think it was the Bow River Ride for CA$ 59, where we could enjoy a 1.5 hours ride along the Bow River. We had an appointment in the morning, the staff there was very friendly and provided us with all necessary information about riding their horses. My lovely buddy was ‘Pistol’, she was a good girl at the beginning, but at the end she kept trying to leave the trail to find higher grass, despite my diligent attempts to keep the horse on tack and follow the instructions of the staff… Anyway, she managed to carry me safely back to the Stables. The horseback riding made a lot of fun! I would love to do it again!
