Shinjuku – Tokyo’s Entertainment District

As my journey in Japan nears its end, I find myself reflecting on the amazing experiences I have had, especially in Shinjuku, Tokyo’s vibrant heart. One place I was dying to visit was the new Kabukicho Tower, a massive entertainment hub that opened in April 2023. However, before diving into all that excitement, I had to tick off a few other spots on my list.

First up was the Subaru Building Shinjuku Eye, a place straight out of an anime opening (Jujutsu Kaisen fans, you know what I mean!). Feel free to refer to my earlier blog post for more information or detailed insights about the location. Afterwards, I made a brief break at the adorable Cinnamoroll Cafe for a refreshing soda and some cute decor vibes. I was lucky because there were not many people there, so I could just walk into the Cafe without having to wait or make a reservation.

Now, let’s dive into the highlight of my day: the Kabukicho Tower, which opened in April 2023. This place was massive, towering over me with its 48 floors jam-packed with all sorts of cool stuff like restaurants, cafes, bars, entertainment complex as well as a cinema and (a member-ship based) wellness club. I only scratched the surface, but what I saw was mind-blowing. The Shinjuku Kabuki Hall (Kabuki Yokocho) on the second floor was like stepping into a disco fever dream, with neon lights and dangling lanterns giving it an otherworldly vibe. You will find a selection of different izakaya-style restaurants, each specializing in cuisine from various prefectures. It is a great place to hang out with friends.

On the third floor, I felt drawn to the vibrant energy of the Namco Tokyo amusement complex. With its fancy neon lights, beloved games and an abundance of Gashapon machines, it was impossible to resist spending a few hours there. In the bar area, you will discover a selection of cocktails and mocktails to enjoy alongside a delightful parfait or savory snacks. Plus, there is even a virtual DJ spinning tunes, adding to the lively atmosphere and making it a truly enjoyable experience. Food, games and rainbow cocktails – what more could you want? By the end of the day, I was beat and tired, but in the best possible way.
