K36 Rooftop Bar Kyoto – best view of the Yasaka Pagoda (Hokan-ji Temple)

Looking for an instagrammable location in Kyoto with the perfect view of the Yasaka Pagoda (Hōkan-ji Temple)?! I know a great spot for you: the rooftop bar K36 at the Hotel Seiryu in Kiyomizu! I marked this spot on Google maps thanks to Instagram’s algorithm and planned it during our Kyoto trip. Reservation in advance is recommended (only possible via telephone), but if you go there spontaneously, seats might be already full because the rooftop is very popular. If you arrive without reservation, I recommend you to line up right at opening time at 2pm as we did. We quickly got a table in the right corner, where we had a marvelous view of the Yasaka Pagoda. I ordered a cocktail and my mother went for a sparkling wine – both drinks were at Swiss price level and we paid all in all for two drinks incl. 10% taxes and service charge (1’000 Yen per person – which is not common in Japan) approx. 6’100 Japanese Yen! This was one of the most expensive moment in a bar/restaurant in Japan so far, but the scenery and atmosphere was totally worth it! I will probably do not go there anytime soon again, however I would love to experiencing the night scenery the next time.
