A Guide to Mizuki Shigeru Road | GeGeGe No Kitaro – Japan’s Manga and Yokai Culture

Another great thing, what you can do in Tottori, is to spend your day at the Mizuki Shigeru Road. Mizuki-san was a famous Japanese manga author and lived in the city of Sakaiminato. His best known manga is GeGeGe no Kitaro (ゲゲゲの鬼太郎), a story about folklore creatures (yokai) and spirit-monsters. Sounds creepy, but the monsters are actually quite nice and hilarious. I used to watch the anime, when I was a child.

So from the JR Sakaiminato station, you can walk the Mizuki Shigeru Road and discover more than 150 yokai characters. They also have lots of shops, which are themed with GeGeGe no Kitaro. At the end of the road, you can visit the Mizuki Shigeru Museum, if you are interested to know more about him. The road is not only for children, as an adult, you can also have heaps of fun here!

Even the toilet sign was in GeGeGe no Kitaro style!
