Conan Station (Yura Station)

Starting at Tottori Station, we boarded the early train at 06:35 with a special goal in mind: to ride the Detective Conan local train. The fare was 860¥ one way, and we arrived at Yura Station (also known as Conan Station) around 07:42, without needing to change trains.

Upon arrival, we explored the station and snapped photos of the impressive Conan statue. We then stored our luggage in the coin lockers on the left side of the station. Unfortunately, renovations were underway, so we were not able to take any pictures inside the station.

Hokuei Public Library

We made our way to the Hokuei Public Library, where we encountered Conan’s school friends: Yoshida Ayumi, Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya, Genta Kojima, and Ai Haibara. Although the library was closed on Monday, we were still able to admire the bronze statue of Shinichi Kudo, a standout feature of the library’s exterior.

Hokuei Town Hall

Next, we strolled to Hokuei Town Hall, a 10-minute walk away. Unfortunately, the Edogawa Conan statue, which usually features him eating a watermelon, was temporarily removed for renovations, sadly… However, if you continue further, you will find statues of the detective who turned small and the villains Gin and Vodka. At the Information Center (大栄農村環境改善センター), some windows are decorated with Conan stickers. We were also lucky to spot a Conan-themed car parked nearby.

Great Conan Bridge

We walked to the Great Conan Bridge, a delightful spot linked to the Detective Conan series. This pedestrian bridge features various Conan-themed elements, including different Conan bronze statues placed at the entrance and exit in unique poses. As you cross the bridge, you can also catch a glimpse of Conan’s house nearby, adding an extra layer of charm to the visit.

Conan’s House / Beika Shopping Street

We visited Conan’s House, where you can ring the doorbell and either Conan or Ran-Nechan might answer. The house is styled to reflect the iconic home from the Detective Conan series. Beika Shopping Street is a treasure trove for Conan fans. Highlights include the Conan Department Store, where you can find a wide range of themed merchandise and Conan’s Kitchen, serving Conan-themed dishes. Café Poirot is a charming spot for a themed coffee break, while the Conan Maze provides a playful challenge.

The Beika Shopping Street also features impressive statues of Shinichi Kudo and Ran Mouri, as well as Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama. Since most shops open around 10am, we used the time to explore and take photos. Additionally, there is an opportunity to do Purikura with a limited-edition Conan theme, adding a fun and memorable experience to your visit.

Conan’s Kitchen

When the clock struck 10am, we were the first in line to enter Conan’s Kitchen haha! I had missed it on my last visit since it was a Wednesday, their usual closed day. With no one else around, the staff kindly gave us Conan and Ran hair accessories – we had a blast taking silly pictures with them. The menu operates on a self-service basis; you order at machines near the entrance, and the staff brings your food to your table. For every drink you order, you receive a Detective Conan-themed coaster. I was lucky enough to get Kaito Kid (my favourite character) and I couldn’t have been happier! It really made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory

After lunch, we made our way to the Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory. Along the way, we came across another bronze statue – this one showing Conan and Kogoro Mouri sleeping on a bench. The path is lined with plenty of Conan signs and even manhole covers featuring the little detective.

When we arrived at the museum, we were welcomed by Professor Agasa sitting inside his iconic yellow car, and we even spotted a Kaito Kid statue nearby. Did you know that Conan is celebrating its 30th anniversary? Gosho Aoyama’s “Detective Conan” has been serialized in Shogakukan’s “Weekly Shonen Sunday” since January 1994, and in January 2024, it marked three decades of thrilling mysteries!

The Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory offers a fascinating glimpse into Aoyama’s life, with exhibits showcasing his hometown, childhood drawings and the path to his career. Visitors can see a reconstruction of his workspace, complete with his chair and explore original Detective Conan manga pages. Interactive features include using the voice changer, riding a virtual solar skateboard and triggering murder tricks from the series. The museum also celebrates Aoyama’s other works, like Yaiba and Magic Kaito, adding a rich perspective on his creative journey. At the end of the visit, there is a museum shop that visitors can enter without having to go through the main museum. The entry to the museum shop is free for everyone.

Ran Statue

It was about a 20-minute walk from Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory to the Ran statue. We retraced our steps back to the Conan Bridge, then turned right. The route to the Ran statue was easy to follow, as there were plenty of Conan signposts along the way guiding us. The best way to find it is by searching for “Yoneda Pharmacy Hokuei” on Google Maps – the statue is directly across from it. I have included the exact location at the end of this post.

It was a lot of fun walking through the quiet streets, discovering different Conan characters along the way. It felt like a mini treasure hunt – kind of like a “find Waldo,” but in Conan style. There is also a cute Conan and Ran statue at Daiei Elementary School, but it was a bit off the main route, so I will save that one for next time.

Hokuei Town Information Center

Before making our way back to Tottori, we stopped briefly at the Hokueicho Tourist Information Center, conveniently located right next to the station. There, you can find Conan guides, limited postcards and a variety of souvenirs. The best part is that they offer several Conan-themed stamps, which you can use for free – so it’s definitely worth bringing postcards or a notebook to stamp. You can easily purchase your train ticket from the ticket machine at the station. If you are lucky, you might even catch the local Conan train or spot one traveling in the opposite direction.

  1. I recently went to Hokuei and I made the mistake of going on Conan’s birthday xD. It was very busy and I ended up not being able to visit the factory or souvenir shop. I still enjoyed the experience, but I’m planning on going again during a not busy time. What times of the year would you suggest I should go/ what time have you gone?
