If you are a fan of film, fantasy, games, comics or cosplay, Fantasy Basel – The Swiss Comic Con is a must-visit event that promises an unforgettable experience. Since its debut in May 2015 (omg, time flies by!), in the vibrant city of Basel, this annual convention has become a beloved tradition for enthusiasts from all over. With the sole exception of 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fantasy Basel has been a yearly celebration of creativity and imagination.

The convention has grown immensely over the years, reflecting the skyrocketing popularity of cosplay, manga, fantasy and comic culture in Switzerland. This growth is evident in the sheer scale and variety of the exhibitions, which feature everything a fan could dream of.

This year’s event was just as spectacular as ever. The highlights included dazzling cosplay shows, an Artist Alley showcasing over 300 talented artists and cosplayers, and exciting meet-and-greet and autograph sessions with actors and voice actors. For Star Wars enthusiasts, the Sci-Fi Hall was a paradise, brimming with iconic exhibits and memorabilia. The main exhibition hall was a treasure trove of merchandise, offering everything from manga, figurines to anime swords and more.

One of the standout aspects of this year’s convention was the thoughtful management of visitor numbers across different halls. This made for a surprisingly comfortable and enjoyable experience, even on the busy Saturday we attended. The spacious halls and well-regulated crowd control meant there was plenty of room to explore and engage with the exhibits without feeling overwhelmed.

Personally, I found myself gravitating towards the Artist Alley, where I indulged in my passion for stationery and discovered some fantastic new pieces. The creativity and talent on display were truly inspiring and I left with a sense of excitement and anticipation for what next year’s event will bring.

Fantasy Basel – The Swiss Comic Con continues to be a magical gathering for fans of all ages. Whether you are a seasoned attendee or planning your first visit, it is an event that promises to captivate and delight. I can’t wait to return next year and immerse myself once again in this extraordinary celebration of all things fantasy and geek culture!
