Ola amigos, here is a flashback to our amazing and relaxing beach holiday in Mexico (beginning of May 2024). Originally, we planned to visit the Maldives, but when my friend fell ill at the last minute, we had to change our plans – and we don’t regret it at all. We found a great deal on Voyage Privé (our go-to travel agency that always delivers excellent service and value).
We flew directly from Zurich to Cancun with Edelweiss, and the travel agency arranged the transport to our hotel resort, making the journey smooth and easy. It took about 20 minutes from the airport. Since we arrived late at night and were exhausted from the long flight, we went straight to bed to rest up for our upcoming days in Cancun.
We stayed in a Preferred Club Junior suite with an all-inclusive package that truly covered everything: food, drinks, access to all restaurants, coffee, sweets in the lobby – there were no hidden fees. As Preferred Club members, we also enjoyed access to the infinity pool during the day and the exclusive Preferred Club lounge and bar. Our hotel was adults-only, which added to the tranquil and relaxing atmosphere.
Our daily routine was blissfully simple: breakfast, relaxing at the beach or pool, engaging in activities like beach volleyball, tequila tasting, water biking and dance lessons, all while enjoying cocktails and sunbathing. Evenings were reserved for dinner and the amazing, diverse shows every night.
With seven different restaurants offering cuisines from Asian to Mexican, Mediterranean and Italian, the food was incredibly good. The variety of activities and relaxation by the pool kept things exciting and enjoyable throughout our stay. What I will miss the most are the wonderful staff (I have never met such happy and lovely people as in Mexico) and our fantastic animators who made every effort to ensure our stay was perfect!
P.S. You will find all useful tips for Mexico at the end of this post!

and I was somehow allergic to it…

And I noticed that Mexcian Tequila can be so good!
Always make sure that it is made of 100% Agave

Useful Travel Tips for Mexcio
Currency
The currency of Mexico is the Mexican Peso, abbreviated as MXN and often symbolized by the “$” sign. To distinguish it from other currencies that use the dollar sign, it is sometimes written as “Mex$” or “MX$.”.One Mexican Peso is around 0.049 CHF / 0.051 Euro / 0.055 US dollars (07.2024). However, in many tourist areas and border towns in Mexico, you can pay with US dollars.
Adapter
In Mexico the power plugs and sockets are of type A or B. The standard voltage is 127 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz (similar to the US).
Visa
A visa is not required for Swiss passport holders visiting Mexico for a short-term stay (180 days)
Transportation
We had an organized transportation by Voyage Privé, which was included in the price. However, the cost of a taxi from Cancun Airport to the Cancun resort area typically ranges from $25 to $45 USD, depending on factors such as the exact location of the resort, the type of service (e.g., private vs. shared shuttle), and the time of day.

Sightseeing & Attractions
To be honest, the hotels offered a lot of great activities like beach volleyball, dance lessons, hand spa treatments, tequila tasting, water biking, and more, so we didn’t do any activities outside of the resort. Nevertheless, here are some possible things you could do:
- Day Trip to Tulum, Cenote (natural pit/sinkhole), Chichen Itza (Maya Ruins)
- Reef Snorkeling
- Jungle Adventures, Ziplines
- Xoximilco Theme Park
- Interactive Aquarium Cancun
